    Sustainability is one of those terms which currently serve a multitude of purposes. It is also often used in the world of finance. What exactly does sustainability mean? What is the definition of a sustainable bank? In what way do media and politics have an effect on the banks’ image of sustainability? 360° asked Sabine Denis (The Shift), Professor Luc Van Liedekerke (UA/KULeuven) and Michel Vermaerke (Febelfin) to give their opinion.

Politicians, citizens, civil organisations and the sector itself are trying to create a sector which is sustainable and responsible. The key elements in this respect are stability, providing services and a sound level of profitability. This means that the sector puts the emphasis on its core business as well as on transparency and a critical analysis of its own corporate policy.
